About Impression, Sunrise
The painting that gave Impressionism its name, originally used as an insult. Shows the harbor of Le Havre, Monets hometown. Stolen in 1985 and recovered in 1990. The sun and its reflection are the same luminance, creating an optical effect. Critics dismissed it as unfinished sketch.
