About Self-Portrait as the Allegory of Painting
Gentileschi portrays herself as Painting personified, following Cesare Ripas iconography. The disheveled hair, gold chain, and mask are all attributes of the allegory. She was the first woman admitted to the Accademia del Disegno in Florence.
