About Spiral Jetty
A 460 meter spiral extending into the Great Salt Lake. Made from over 6,000 tonnes of black basalt. Submerged for decades, it reappears when water levels drop. The pink color of the lake comes from salt-loving bacteria. Smithson died in a plane crash 3 years after completing it.
