About David

Carved from a single block of marble that two other sculptors had abandoned. Michelangelo was only 26 when he started. The statue is 5.17 meters tall. The right hand is disproportionately large, possibly emphasizing his strength. The eyes gaze toward Rome with a warning glare. The marble block was neglected for 40 years before Michelangelo claimed it.
