About Pieta
Michelangelo was only 23 when he carved it. The only work he ever signed, after overhearing someone attribute it to another artist. Mary appears younger than Jesus, representing her eternal purity. The folds of her dress contain hidden structural support. A deranged man attacked it with a hammer in 1972, damaging Marys nose and arm.
