The Starry Night
About The Starry Night
Painted from memory while van Gogh was in an asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence. He painted it just 13 months before his death at age 37. The swirling sky was not purely imagination but matches a scientific model of turbulent flow. He sold only one painting during his lifetime. The village was added from imagination, not visible from his window.
