About The Lady of Shalott
Based on the Tennyson poem. The lady is cursed to view the world only through a mirror. When she looks directly at Camelot, the curse activates. She drifts down the river to her death. Waterhouse painted three versions of this subject. The candles and crucifix suggest a funeral bier.
