About The Winged Victory of Samothrace
Depicts the goddess Nike alighting on a ship prow. Found on the island of Samothrace in 1863. The head and arms were never found. Stands 2.75 meters tall on the ships base. Positioned at the top of the Daru staircase in the Louvre for dramatic effect. The wet drapery effect shows mastery of marble carving.
